The Rand Symphony Orchestra invites applications from music students to audition for our annual Youth Concert to be held on Sunday afternoon, 7 June 2026, at the Roodepoort Theatre. Candidates should be of the highest standard (not lower than Grade 6) and currently attending school; or an undergraduate music student at university (age limit 21). Closing date for Applications will be 16 February 2026.
An audition fee of R250.00 will be payable at the audition on or before Saturday 7 March 2026 at Domus Dei Church, Jean Road, Blairgowrie; times to be advised. Applicants and their teachers will be advised of the results of their audition by 16 March. Assistance in payment of the audition fee will be considered for those with financial difficulties. Please approach the orchestra in this regard by emailing youth@randsymphony.co.za.
Candidates are to supply their own accompanist for the audition. As there is only one piano available at the audition venue, piano concerti need not be accompanied.
Candidates can expect auditions of longer works to be curtailed at 8 minutes, to allow adequate time for all applicants.
Successful candidates will be expected to attend at least three Tuesday evening rehearsals prior to the concert, the general rehearsal on the afternoon before the concert, and the performance.
Each candidate selected to perform will be presented with a certificate at the end of the performance.
